Colorado Parks and Wildlife: Thanks you for reaching out with your questions as to why there are dead fish showing up at Parachute Ponds.

Around this time of year, it is not uncommon for dead fish to start to show up in bodies of water, frequently in more shallow locations with minimal water flow. Trout are especially susceptible to the stressors of change in water quality and are often the species most commonly seen dead. Due to the extended periods of high temperatures and lack of rainfall this year, the waters of Parachute Ponds have increased in temperature, also causing the oxygen levels within the water to deplete, therefore causing stress to the fish. These conditions may also make fishing more difficult.

CPW will continue to monitor the conditions of Parachute Ponds.

If you have any other wildlife concerns or questions, please contact Nate Harrel, your local Wildlife Officer at 970-200-4026 or at nathan.harrel@state.co.us. Thank you.

Our annual Employee Appreciation Picnic in the Park was once again a hit! We enjoyed delicious BBQ, served by our gracious leaders. After dinner, the Cornhole Battle began. The team, "My Buddy Vinnie", came out victorious once again. The rest of us have agreed that we need to practice for next year! It was great to see all the employee families come out. Even the weather cooperated! A good time was had by all. Till next year y'all! #picnic #employeeappreciation #workfamily #townofparachute #parachutepopo
